The band Physically 16 Mentally 8 (p16m8) was formed on the 19 Feb 2010, in Flint Stone Studio. The whole idea came together through our participation in High School Idols Competition; Hensly Callixtus, Daniel Mathias, Erwin Ashley Chan, Camillus Caem, Grace Berlian and Janine Kimura. The mixture of each of our characters makes the name p16m8 meaningful as we all consist of naughty, messy, noisy and we have the mind of an 8 year old.
HENSLY CALLIXTUS
"He’s the main vocalist in the band. He also plays the bass, guitar and the drum. One thing he never knew about himself was he owns a very charming voice and he could sing his heart out for everyone to hear. We discovered he could be a singer when we heard him sang a random song nonchalantly just to fill his time. Amazingly, with the right training and support from friends, he’s our vocalist!"
DANIEL MATHIAS"The hot lead guitarist whom got not only girls yelling his name but boys as well! But calm down girls, he’s shy..
Daniel’s also known with the name “Chulo”. No doubt he’s shy but once you get to know him, you’ll think his funny personality is just beyond crazy. He imitates Mr. Bean as if he could be the voice star of the cartoon show! And he has a fondness in making dolphin sounds as well."

ERWIN ASHLEY CHAN"He plays the rhythm guitar and just recently found a talent in playing the bass as well. One specialty of him is that, he’s a GIRL MAGNET. Cases seem to be girl’s coming to him coz they like him, they become his close friend and all he could do is smile."

CAMILLUS CAEM"He is known as the multitasker in the band. He does almost everything for p16m8 to have a smooth music, to have a well performance and he handles all the un-right. Big respect for this dude! He’s the original bassist for the band but he also has a special hand for the clarinet. He was the one to form this band as it was his idea to put us; the lost talents into something/someone we don’t expect we manage to be. He would probably be saying “MU ROCKZ!” right now.. "

GRACE BERLIAN
"The one and only girl drummer we know who’s smart, groovy, fashionable, plays mind blowing drumming beats and she’s smokin’ like hot yummy bacon! When she hits the drum, it’s like she’s in a different world. She makes inspiration grow in us as she plays the role of our perfect metronome."

JANINE KIMURA
"The hip, the hop, the punk and the funk of the band. This girl will not only blow your mind away with her smoking voice but she will blast it away too. Originally a second vocalist of P16M8 however she did not perform with the band in High School Idol due to her own solo performance in the competition. She is the lady which you would mistaken to be the bands mother for her way of managing to organize but still keep us happy and ready to play every single second."
When this band was formed, we were actually preparing ourselves for the preliminary-round of the High School Idols Competition. It was on the 13th March 2010, Saturday. Our practices were every week, mostly on a Friday and we jumped from one studio to another until we ended up just practicing at a house. Thanks loads to Les Paul Studio, Flint Stone and Audiowave for being vacant as we needed the rooms there. Through these, we’ve experienced so much and our lives changed somehow within those nick moments.
We’ve also had arguments; between lovers, friends and band mates. The tension was excruciating and the fact that we were still high school students just make the whole scene seems unbelievable. People could be asking, “What do you mean there’s so much tension? All you do is play music. You’re not making money with them yet”. But peeps out there, we meant the struggles we had to endure while having homeworks, school activities and etc when we also needed our minds in the music we expect to play as the result. Besides, we’re young and this could possibly said to be our first time doing these kinds of things. We chose to take a step forward to manage this band. We want to expose our talents and we want to improve too.
Fortunately, p16m8, after all the effort made it into the finals of High School Idols that was in the following week, 20th March 2010, Saturday. We’ve played our best in the preliminary-round carrying the song, Your Guardian Angel by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. Of all the songs to pick, we picked this one because it is supposedly dedicated to a special someone out there. Other than this reason, the song also means something to the singer and he feels that he could relate with the song and this was a good sign.
Preliminary was just our battle. In the Finals, we’re heading for war. We worked billion times harder for the finals as we only had one week to prepare and there was no time to waste. Every second means something! We picked No Boundaries by Kris Allen for finals and made it our own. As a result in the finals, we were satisfied. No, we didn’t win but we managed to hit top 10 on the charts over 18 finalist. If not mistaken we fell on the 5th place of 10 prize winners. We can admit that it was a great performance, we had fun on stage and there were even hilarious moments. Vocals didn’t go off but our one mistake was our speed! We were like being chased by a dinosaur or something but when we watched it back, bittersweet memories just comes to place and we’ll just laugh at ourselves.
Well, we hope for the best in our future!
